 Few weeks back, as the possibility of the looming covid-19 pandemic began to arise, many people started preparing to wipe off the virus by thinking about personal hygiene.


Today, KNB has decided to write something’s on Personal Hygiene for our safety.

As our fears of catching the coronavirus grow day by day, especially now that COVID-19 has been officially classified as a pandemic by the World Health Organization. Many Scientists are on the range of procuring vaccinefor the so called covid-19.

What's COVID-19?
COVID-19 is an illness that can affect your lungs and airways. It's caused by a virus called coronavirus. Those who have fallen ill are reported to suffer coughs, breathing difficulties and fever.

Now to reduce the risks of contacting such deadly virus, let firstly talk about the virus, COVID-19.

Presently, there is currently no vaccine to prevent coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The best way to prevent the spread of this virus is to avoid being exposed to it. The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person contact.

As the rate at which the virus spread presently which led to closure of many companies, business , events , even in Nigeria that leads to shutting down of NYSC orientation programme as the fear is growing.

So now, let discuss some Tips to avoid the spread/ contacting the disease. Normally, it’s usually between people who are in close contact with one another as reported by WHO. Also, through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.

SOME TIPS TO PROTECT YOURSELF.

  • Clean your hands often
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water especially after been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 50% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Always avoid a close contact
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
Put distance between yourself and people if COVID-19 is spreading in your environment. This is especially important for people who are at higher risk of getting very sick.

  • Stay home if you are sick, except to get medical care. Learn what to do if you are sick.
  • Always covering your mouth when coughing
  • Cover coughs and sneezes
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
Immediately wash your hands with soap and water. If soap and water are not readily available, clean your hands with a hand sanitizer that contains at least 50% alcohol.
  • Wear a facemask if you are sick
If you are sick: You should wear a facemask when you are around other people (e.g., sharing a room, Public place or in vehicle) and before you enter a healthcare provider’s office. If you are not able to wear a facemask (for example, because it causes trouble breathing), then you should do your best to cover your coughs and sneezes, and people who are caring for you should wear a facemask if they enter your room. Learn what to do if you are sick and always contact your doctor on what’s needed to be done as soon as possible.

To round it up, Always Clean and disinfect frequently touched or used surfaces daily. This includes tables, gadgets, laptops, kitchen utensils, light switches, doors, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks.

If surfaces are dirty, clean them by using detergent or soap and water prior to disinfection.
